A Forsythe County city Winston-Salem has a population of 247,945. The city is home to the regions tallest building the Wells Fargo Center. Due to its heritage, Winston-Salem is referred to as the twin city. It earned the name camel city because of the camel cigarettes made by the locally situated RJ Reynolds tobacco company. It is considered as one of the best places to retire in the country. With restaurants, hotels, and apartments being under construction it is on the path of revitalization. Salem was a typical Moravian settlement. It was named shalom for peace initially which eventually became Salem. The city holds the world-famous Moravian sunrise service on Easter day each year. A new town was established in the north of Salem which came to be called Winston and later the two became the twin city. Winston was named after an American Revolutionary War hero Joseph Winston.
