A Wake County city Raleigh has a population of 474,069. This capital city of the state of North Carolina is known as the city of oaks. It is named in honor of Sir Walter Raleigh who established the Roanoke Colony. This is one of the planned cities of the USA. It was planned as the region was chosen as the state capital. Though it did not take an active part in the Civil War it was captured by the Union Forces. This affected its economy but its growth was fast. Previously it was an agriculture-based economy. The first school for the deaf and blind for black people was established here in the nation. A free black community was established and job opportunities and education were promoted for this community. It created a favorable business climate and also promoted a cultural atmosphere.
